Is there anything better than the feeling of 75-degree days with sunny blue skies? We don’t think so! And unless you are lucky enough to live in a state where that is the norm, you are probably daydreaming of warmer days right about now. We sure are! If you are like us, you don’t need much encouragement to find a reason to get outside. But if you do or just can’t seem to make the time for it most days during the week, keep reading. Being outdoors has multiple health benefits and it’s something free you can do for yourself most days with a little bit of planning on your part.
Feeling blah or fatigued? There are aspects of the outdoors that are specifically shown to improve your mental state. Sunlight, for example, has a positive impact on how you are feeling. Studies have shown that people’s brains have higher serotonin, your body’s natural mood stabilizer, levels on bright sunny days, even when it’s cold out. Ultraviolet light also encourages the release of endorphins by melanocyte cells which increases your mood.
Feeling stressed?
You’ve also probably heard of going outside to get your Vitamin D. Vitamin D is essential for bone growth, helps to regulate your immune system, and can help battle depression and anxiety. Did you know studies have shown being outdoors can lower cortisol levels, your stress hormone, and being in nature can have a profound positive impact on your sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems?
Feeling strapped for time?
